Cement Masons Local 500 Wins Labor Council Softball Tournament

The 2008 Labor Council Softball Tournament ended the afternoon of July 27 with a new champion.

Cement Masons Local 500 topped three-time champion Communication Workers of America Local 9509 in the finals to take home the local’s first title.

The two-day tournament, held for the first time at Chula Vista Community Park, featured 18 of the region’s top union softball teams. Participants included Teachers, Sheet Metal Workers, Ironworkers, Teamsters, City Workers, Machinists and Electrical Workers.

Saturday’s opening rounds brought out approximately 400 union members for the day’s 24 games and Labor Council picnic.

The Labor Council thanks all of the participants for making this year’s tournament a success.
